Following several months of continued growth, bunker sales in Panama fell sharply in November 2020.
The 363,735 metric tonnes (mt) of bunker sales recorded in Panama in November 2020 was 86,458 mt (19.2%) down on the 450,193 mt registered during November 2019.
November 2020’s total was also significantly lower (11.8%) than the 412,622 mt recorded in October 2020, according to data provided by the Panama Maritime Authority (AMP).
The sharp decrease in bunker sales volumes was reflected by a drop in bunker calls. The 492 bunker operations registered in November 2020 was 323 (39.6%) fewer than the 815 recorded in November 2019, and 74 (13.1%) fewer than the 566 made in October 2020.
Very low sulphur fuel oil (VLSFO) accounted for nearly three quarters (71.5%) of all marine fuel sales in Panama in November 2020. Despite the drop in volumes in November 2020 however, the 64,915 mt sales of RMG 380 represented the highest monthly total for the residual fuel grade of the year to date.
Elsewhere, sales of low sulphur marine gasoil (LSMGO) and marine gasoil (MGO) were 28,696 mt and 10,132, respectively.
During the first 11 months of 2020 a total of 4,331,182 mt of marine fuel was sold in Panama. In contrast, during the same period in 2019, a total of 4,837,468 mt was sold, which represents a year-on-year decrease of 10.5%.
