The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), which has banned the use of open loop scrubbers in port waters from I January next year, says that scrubber discharge must be collected and dealt with by local toxic industrial waste collectors.

In a circular issued today (16 May), the MPA provides a list of licensed waste collectors at the port. It notes that these collectors can arrange for the scrubber waste to be ‘offloaded in packaged form or in intermediate bulk container tanks directly to trucks and MPA licensed harbour craft for ships at berth and at anchorages, respectively.’
