The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has confirmed that an estimated five tonnes of oil overflowed from the Bahamas-flagged bulk carrier, Ines Corrado, yesterday (28 October).
The Ines Corrado began leaking oil during a bunkering operation near Changi. The overflow has ceased, and MPA patrol craft quickly sprayed dispersants to manage the spill, according to an official communication.
As of 08:00 this morning (29 October), no oil has been observed on the water or along the shorelines near the incident site.
To further ensure containment, the MPA has deployed a current buster off Changi as a precautionary measure to recover any potential traces of oil that might appear on the water.
The Malaysian authorities have also been notified to monitor their waters for any signs of the spill and the MPA has stated it will be conducting a full investigation into the incident.
The MPA added that the incident has not impacted navigational traffic and it will continue to update the public as more information becomes available.
