Viva Energy has confirmed to Bunkerspot that it will be supplying marine fuels by barge at the Australian Port of Brisbane from next month.
In an email sent to Bunkerspot today (21 January), the company said that the barge will be supplying heavy fuel oil (HFO), very low sulphur fuel oil (VLSFO) and marine gas oil (MGO).
Viva Energy already provides bunker services by truck and pipeline in Brisbane. The company is active in more than 20 bunker markets across Australia. In most ports, it supplies MGO by pipe or truck. The ports at which it can supply all three main grades of fuel by truck, pipe and barge include: Geelong (where the company’s refinery is based); Melbourne; and now Brisbane. In Sydney, Viva Energy can provide MGO and HFO, but not VLSFO.
As previously reported, Viva Energy announced on 13 January that its Geelong refinery – which is the primary source for its marine fuel – was undergoing an unscheduled shutdown and it would take ‘between one and two weeks’ for the plant to resume normal production levels. However, the company said that it did not expect supply to the market to be disrupted as a result of the incident.
