Senior officials from Bangchak Sriracha (BSRC) and NYK Line gathered in Laem Chabang Port this week to witness the delivery of the first load of B24 marine biofuel.
Some 470 metric tonnes (mt), produced at Bangchak Sriracha Refinery, were supplied to NYK Line’s car carrier Iris Leader at the Thai port on Monday (24 February).
‘This milestone reinforces BSRC’s position as a global leader in sustainable marine biofuel,’ the company said in a statement issued yesterday (27 February). ‘The new product has already attracted strong interest from shipping companies, particularly those from Japan.’
The B24 marine biofuel consists of 24% UCOME (used cooking oil methyl ester) blended with 0.5% sulphur very low sulphur fuel oil (VLSFO).
‘It is a low-emission biofuel that can directly replace fossil fuels without requiring modifications to ship engines or fueling infrastructure,’ added BSRC. ‘This innovation offers a practical and immediate solution for reducing carbon emissions in the maritime industry.’
