Developed at the Petrobrazi refinery, the new very low sulphur fuel oil (VLSFO) is said to be ‘unique to the Romanian market’ and for the first time reduces the country’s reliance on bunker fuel imports.
Announcing that the first delivery of the VLSFO took place at the Port of Constanta at the end of last year, OMV Petrom said that production of the new fuel had been realised through a €3 million investment at the Petrobrazi facility
Until the launch of the VLSFO product, the Romanian market has been supplied exclusively by imports. Going forward, OMV Petrom estimates that up to 70,000 metric tonnes of low sulphur bunker fuel can be produced each year, ‘subject to production optimisation to meet demand and maximise value added’.
