Shipyard Meyer Werft has announced that construction work on P&O Cruises’ new LNG-powered ship Arvia has begun at its laser centre.

The Arvia will become P&O Cruises’ second LNG-powered Excel class ship when it joins the fleet in December 2022. Like its sister ship Iona, the Arvia will be fitted with a 970 cubic metre (cbm) SkyDome.

P&O Cruises announced the name of the Arvia on Thursday (18 February) – explaining that it means ‘from the seashore’ in Latin.

As previously reported, the IonaArvia’s sister ship and the first LNG-fuelled vessel in P&O Cruises’ fleet – was delivered by Meyer Werft on 9 October.
