The Port of Rotterdam has reported that Trammo, OCI and James Fisher Fendercare conducted an ammonia bunkering pilot between two vessels at the Maasvlakte 2 APM terminal on 12 April.
The pilot involved transferring 800 cubic metres (cbm) of liquid, cold ammonia at -33 degrees Celsius and took about two and a half hours to complete.
In a statement sent to Bunkerspot this morning (14 April), the Port Authority said the demonstration ‘validated’ its safety framework for ammonia bunkering.
The Port Authority facilitated the pilot; OCI owns and operates the ammonia terminal; Trammo supplied the two tankers carrying OCI’s ammonia; and James Fisher Fendercare provided the equipment and expertise for the ship-to-ship transfer at the berth location provided by APM Terminal.
In addition, bunker barge operator Victrol offered its bunkering expertise, while the DCMR Environmental Protection Agency, Rijnmond Safety Region (VRR), and the Joint Fire Service (GB) were on hand to ensure the pilot was conducted safely and smoothly.
