In its research on global transportation emission-attributable deaths, the International Council on Clean Transportation finds that emissions including particulate matter (2.5) and ozone from international shipping contributed to 38% of transport emission-related deaths in the United Kingdom in 2015 – just behind Japan, where the shipping sub-sector accounted for 41% of such deaths.
