A steel cutting ceremony for the ferry - the largest hybrid vessel in the world - was held at Crist shipyard, Poland.
The event was attended by representatives of Ulstein Verft and Crist, Color Line and class society DNV-GL.
The vessel will be a plug-in hybrid and its batteries will be recharged via onshore power facilities. It will operate in full battery mode when it enters into service on the Sandefjord-Strömstad route in 2019.
The keel laying of the 160 metre-long vessel is scheduled to take place this autumn.
