The new terminal will include a floating storage and regasification unit to be stationed in Vasilikos harbour, which is expected to facilitate LNG bunkering.
Announcing the publication of the tender documents, the national gas public company, DEFA, said that a request for expressions of interest for the supply of LNG will be issued in the coming weeks and it is expected that the project will go to a full tender early in 2019
In addition to a FRSU, the terminal will also include a mooring jetty and a jetty borne gas pipeline. Completion of the terminal is slated for 2020. The project has secured funding of 40% of the CAPEX (up to €101 million) as a granted from the European Union under the Connecting Europe Facility.
The FSRU is a key component of the Cyprus2GasEU project, which falls under the European Union’s (EU) CYnergy project that aims to promote the uptake of natural gas in Cyprus and the development of a sustainable and fully functional natural gas market.
