The marine fuel intelligence platform ENGINE has reported that Rotterdam's B20-VLSFO and B30-VLSFO bunker prices have increased significantly over the past week, as the Dutch government has halved the rebate multiplier for marine biofuel sales from 0.80 to 0.40.

Under the new policy which came into effect on 1 January, said ENGINE, suppliers will now get around $50 a tonne for advanced B20-VLSFO (20% biofuel, 80% VLSFO) sold and $80 a tonne for advanced B30-VLSFO.

Advanced B20 and B30 rebates were around $100 and $160 a tonne respectively before the policy change came into effect, said ENGINE, and the outright price for advanced B30-VLSFO has now risen by more than $70 a tonne to above $700 a tonne.

The ENGINE team looked at the upcoming trends in the marine biofuels market in the October/November issue of the Bunkerspot magazine. Click here to access their article. The current December/January issue of the Bunkerspot magazine also includes a special focus on biofuels, with articles from Paola Rodriguez-Masiu and Thomas Hoogsteden of STX Group and Hussein Al-Khalisy of Argus Media.
