Wallenius Wilhelmsen has signed a contract with ExxonMobil for the supply of B30 biofuel to its vessels on European transits.
The deliveries will be at Zeebrugge, with an option for Antwerp, the Ro-Ro shipping company said today.
‘This is a small but important step on our decarbonisation journey,’ said Jon Tarjei Kråkenes, Head of Orcelle Accelerator at Wallenius Wilhelmsen. ‘The use of biofuel will help us and our customers who share our ambition to reduce emissions in our operation and their supply chain.’
Kråkenes said sustainable biofuel is an ‘important part’ of the company’s strategic goal to deliver one net-zero emissions integrated supply chain service by 2027.
‘The biofuel from ExxonMobil contains 30% biofuel and 70% conventional fuels and is the best option we have available for decarbonisation of our existing fleet today.’

We remain focused on advancing lower GHG emission solutions, including biofuels, to help the marine industry meet its GHG emission-objectives.’
The FAME (Fatty Acid Methyl Ester) components of the B30 fuel, Wallenius Wilhelmsen noted, are ISCC-certified and do not compete for water, and agricultural resources used for food production.
As Bunkerspot reported last month, ExxonMobil signed an agreement to supply Hapag-Lloyd with B30 biofuel in the Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp (ARA) region.
