NKT has announced it has certified its cable-laying vessel NKT Victoria to use biofuels such as hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO).

Commenting, NKT President and CEO, Claes Westerlind, said the move will lead to ‘significant reductions’ in carbon emissions from the company’s offshore operations and is a ‘key element’ in NKT reaching its science-based decarbonisation targets.

Earlier this month, NKT announced the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi) had approved its near-term decarbonisation targets. The company has committed to reducing its absolute scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions 90% by FY2030 from a FY2019 base year.

‘Operating on biofuel also allows us to continue to meet our customer’s increasing expectations for low-carbon operations,’ Westerlind added.
